Very quiet cooker hood

Hi, I am looking for the quietest canopy cooker hood approx 53cm in width. This would be installed into a cabinet. Looking for some recommendations.

My electrician is happy to replace the unit. But I was just wondering which tradesman to call on to replace the “hose” that carries the steam and smoke out of the house.
Thank you.

Sorry I can't give a recommendation but I gave up on the idea of getting one of the quieter ones because they were so much more expensive than the standard ones. Its something that does drive me mad because I hate noise in general but they were just not worth the extra expense. That was about 5/6 years ago, hopefully something cheaper has come to the market since then.

I spent ages looking. The more expensive ones. I think it was the panelling centre in deansgrange that had a good selection installed and working. Bothers hubby more as its ear height for him.

When I am redoing the kitchen I’ll install a hob level one.

After extensive research we bought a Luxair hood from Harvey Norman for an open plan kitchen-living room. Expensive but effective. It's not ducted to outside because it's too complicated to attach to exterior wall.

It is very difficult to reduce the noise as sucking air through a small space is inherently noisy.

More wall coverings and soft surfaces help to absorb sound waves but these are not always practical in a kitchen.

Talk radio or music can help distract your brain from the noise as well.

A general builder is what you need to replace the hose. If at all possible, replace with rigid pipe and a minimum of semi-rigid if required. Avoid the cheap flexi-hose as much as you can as that adds resistance and that means reduced air-flow and much more noise.

The more rigid and weighty the cabinet it is installed into, the less vibration will add to the noise levels.

I fitted one of the Luxair ones a couple of months back and while it was pretty quiet when running before installation, once in the cabinet and connected with the existing flexi-hose it was much noisier! I've been putting off the job of replacing the hose as it'll be awkward one. They recommend 150mm vent pipes though while most older installations here used 100mm.
