I am looking at buying a little diesel van. Thinking something like a Ford Courier or a Seat Inca, 99 or 00. I am only looking to spend €2500. Has anyone got any advice on what is good and what to avoid?. Reliability would obviously be a major factor as I do quite a lot of mileage (20k per annum)!

Would something like the almera or 306 van be too small.

The ford is an absolute dog, would definitely look at the inca first.

Was always happy enough with renault diesels in the past ran 2 of them up to 150k easy to work on DIY as well.

Something like the Kangoo or the citreon berlingo might be worth a look. Try and get ABS at least.

Should be plenty out there, I would say look out for lowest mileage you can get, something that hasn't been worked too hard.

Agree with Frank. Avoid heavily used towbars and signs of heavy loads having been carried inside (cement, plaster signs) as they play havoc with diesel engines later on.
