Value of garden v extension in dublin

The difficulty caused by second living rooms to the rear is that it causes the centre of the house to be dark and unusable. I've explained this to people and advised them to do some house viewings with these type of extensions to see for themselves. That way you'll see for yourself.

The point regarding proportion of gardens in the area relative to yours is well made.

I wouldn't extend.

Are there other options if your desire is for more private spaces. For example tv room or study could be accommodated in an attic room.

Light won’t be an issue for center of house - not extending full width of house so one original window will still be there and new room would have south facing patio door plus velux windows plus large mirror on opposite wall to refract light back into main room. Plus large window on back East facing wall.

The reason we’re not extending full width is due to light considerations

Do you currently have a spare room? Could it be turned into a den with a decent sofa bed ?

It's hugely down to personal preference, as others have said.
But I'd be reluctant to buy a large family home with a tiny garden.
Maybe you guys should be looking at moving house

This is exactly what I would prefer tbh.

There will be plenty of buyers out there when the time comes.

Do what's right for you and your family.
