Vacuum cleaner

I have a Nilfisk its a yellow tubby sort of ugly looking thing but it works great dont know the model but bought it in Powercity a few years ago

Was chatting to a guy who repairs them one day and he basically said to stay away from Dyson as they always break down but that Miele were about the best (that's what we bought in the end)

Had a dyson but it broke easy enough, got a black and decker one from Powercity which is very good

According to Which reviews
Best
Miele S4281

First 4 best buys were Miele, followed by Nilfisk, Bosch and some of the Dysons.

Recommended to stay away from
Dirt Devil
Panasonic MCCG461
Hoover Pets and Parquet
Morphy Richards 73350

I bought iron based on WHich reviews and am extremely happy with it

I have a Miele S5210, I can say it is fantastic. Bought it as my sister had one and I used it in her house and thought it excellent.

What about a handheld/portable vacuum for the car etc.. I heard the min Dyson has the powerr but has woeful battery life.

Anyone know of an alternative?

Had a few over the years and they were useless. Nothing like your home hoover to do the job. Waste of money also using the ones in the garages. Ok for an emergency.

thanks very much guys will go with a Miele

The Miele Cat and Dog one seems to have got a lot of recommendations over time on AAM. Miele stuff is good but expensive. If I was changing my hoover I would try to get a bagless one if possible.

Not sure if its anything similar but noticed to-day that Argos have €30 off this model in their current reduced catalogue

It is a bagged one though.

We had a Hoover One bagless upright, the performance was great, though it would've eventually destroyed the carpet by the amount of actual carpet fibres it removed. We now have a Miele S5211 which is also excellect, but it does the job without stripping carpet fibres.

The reason the Hoover died was that it overheated due to blocked filters. The filters had to be removed and cleaned frequently, which was a messy job to do thouroughly.

We tried one other bagless vac before buying the Miele and took it back after a week as it was pathetic, the filters blocking after only minutes of use. We've gone back to a bagged vacuum for the convenience of it.

Naturally it pays to shop around for bags as well. I found the same genuine Miele bags in Harvey Norman €5 cheaper than elsewhere.

Maybe too late now, but DID have Miele 2200w vacuum cleaner today at 150euro. Has a bag

Thank you Suellen,I bought one of these from argos last week.Very happy with it,but was surprised to find that the instruction manual, though in 4 different languages, not a word of english. Is this normal?.

I have the S4211 Miele it uses a bag and I find it fantastic.

I had a bagless hoover prior to it which lost its suction regularly meaning having to clean filters nearly each time you used it, bags I think are the only way to go.

Definitely not. You may be able to use Google to find a copy on-line. You should complain to Argos. I have found Miele to have an excellent customer service approach. They can be contacted in Tallaght so give them a call and they should be able to post one out.

And Miele have a new showroom on the N7 just past the citywest entrance, where the old MJ Flood /eircom offices were. Looks fab from the road.
