Hi Nellers, that is great, I will try again. One question when you have spoken to them and they sort it for you, then when you go online and they ask for your surname, do you type in your married name which is on the passport or your maiden name . I tried both surnames hoping they would
have received the letter but after I went through the whole process with the phone and app, it said no go because their records didn't match etc
 
Hi Nellers, PS I will be a mix of mainly class 3 as was bringing up children so wasn't working. Credits dont count. When I lived in Uk I also opted out, think it was called Serps so not sure how that impacts me. Anyways working for the last 6 years so will have those and the few years along the way.
 
Hi @Dopey1, when I logged in I used my married name only and the scanning of the passport can be a bit fiddly, but I logged in on the PC and had downloaded the gov id check app to the phone and it all synced up, relatively straightforward. I also put my details in the future pensions call back as stated elsewhere here. Best of luck with it
 
Ok so I transferred payment and just looked online this morning of course not expecting the payment to be allocated yet. However the record now shows that class 3 is due for all years since 2006 whereas previously most years were class 2 and I have the original letter to back it up. Also the payment due date is now showing as May 5th 2025. I paid based on the letter received. Should I be concerned?

I am in the unfortunate position whereby I satisfied the 3 year residency rule and am waiting to see if I have 3 years payments recorded but I had a gap of a few months before I left the UK after I finished up my last job. During that time I was exploring the viability of setting up a business in the UK while also travelling back and over to Ireland doing the same. I ultimately decided to register as self employed in Ireland and returned to Ireland. Although I did not register with HMRC during this period I feel it is unfair to be treated as Unemployed and potentially subjected to Class 3 instead of Class 2 given that I was doing all the due diligence and research that would be associated with setting up a new business. I have declared that there was a period when I was not employed. I did not claim any benefits but did incur significant costs while assessing a business opportunity. There was no point incurring the additional costs associated with registering and deregistering a company until I was sure I was going to proceed with it, and, more importantly, had income to account for. Has anyone found HMRC to be reasonable and accommodating when one finds themselves caught in a grey area such as this.

If yes, have you had a reply?

If no reply yet, wait till you get one.

Pointless speculating until you get that.
 
Back up to Newry in the morning to hopefully get National Insurance number. Not sure how they'll tie up my contributions to that NI number but will cross that bridge when I come to it and I have the proof of employment. Sent my CF83 (with temp NI number) by registered post on 28th March but worryingly the An Post tracker is showing it hasn't been delivered yet. Have the receipt and certificate of postage so hopefully they won't penalise me for missing the 5th April deadline with it. Have the backup of having registered for a call back last month anyway so should be ok. This hasn't been an easy process so far with lots of little hurdles but will keep at it.

Yes sent by courier and requested a call back last week also. No reply yet, will report back when I hear from them.

I sent some additional info last week and is not shown as delivered yet but is in the UK at local office, could be they are inundated, you can also past your reference code in to Royal Mail tracking

Tried the Royal Mail and rang An Post today. Looks like it's back in the Post Office. I'm hoping that proof that I sent it well in advance will get my around the 5th April Deadline as Royal Mail said they tried to deliver on 1st April. Either way I've requested a call back so that's plan B. Was in Newry this morning and very helpful lady took copies of P60s etc and hopefully I'll have a NI number by the end of the week. Next step is to get myself credited with the years I worked and paid contributions and if I can manage that hopefully I'm close to being sorted.

Just looking for some advice. My wife worked in the UK for 1 year in 1990, so I went through the process of getting her NI number and getting an online account, which informed us that she has 4 years of NICs and would qualify for a UK pension, as below:



I filled in the online CF83 and received a response today, which was very quick , only 5 weeks..

However the response was negative in terms of qualifying to pay voluntary NICs. The response is as below, saying that the 3 qualifying years of juvenile credits are not taken into account.

Has anyone else received a similar response ?
Are there any grounds for appeal ?

It does mention that if you worked in an EU country that this could help to meet the conditions , but I'm not sure how this will help.
I do have a wife's PRSI history and she has worked since returning from the UK, which I could sent them as part of an appeal, but I am not sure how this would be worded in order to meet the requirement outlined below :



Any advice / assistance greatly appreciated

The role of juvenile credits was more or less established here but you have it in black and white. They will go towards years for a pension but not for qualifying for voluntary contributions

The EU contributions have been explored less, suggested they could qualify for class 3 but I find it hard to understand that logic

All in all worth getting statement from DSP of your contributions here or indeed any in another EU country as they suggest.

Some here might be interested in that written response
 
A question for anyone who has already paid and been updated with years going back to 2006.
Has anybody received an online message or letter from the HMRC for the years 2024-2025 or when is this correspondence to be communicated . I understood it to be April ?.
Is this correct for years going forward .

My record from 2006 onwards was updated in March 2024. Then in Sept 2024 I got a letter with the offer to contribute for 23/24. There was no email or online message, just the letter. I transfered the amount that week and my online record was updated at the end of March 2025. I've haven't received anything yet for 24/25.

Apparently they will send the letter for two years in a row, and if you don't take up the offer they take it that you are not interested and will stop trying to contact you. So it is important to let them know about any change of address.
