Two litres of milk price increase/Dunnes?

If you were planning to go to the shops Friday, you'd need to go today instead, or some people will delay until Saturday.

Heard some of the Dunnes branches are opening at 12 tomorrow probably in Dublin but also saw this here:

Dunnes Stores

In Cork, Dunnes Stores shops are expected to open at 11am tomorrow. Other stores across the county are expected to open at either 1pm or 4pm, depending on when Red Warnings are lifted.

Dunnes have now increased the 2 litres to €2.09. So since January it has increased from €1.49 to €2.09!!

When staples like milk and bread are going up at this rate it is hard on everyone but especially families with a lot of children.

Dunnes have now increased milk from €2.25 to €2.45.

Lots of increases this week,
Butter €3.59 >€3.79
Litre of orange juice €1.99 was €2.85 last week for 1.75 Litre
Cheddar cheese €3.00 >€3.30
3 Litre Milk €3.25 >€3.55

Strawman argument that is totally irrelevant especially to those of us who don't buy the other drinks to which you refer.

Considering what people are willing to pay for bottles and cans of fizzy flavoured sugar, milk is still superb value. Underpriced tbh.
Well it's not a drink that I feel people should be consuming in the same way we consume "fizzy" drinks
But as regards been "superb value", 4 litres of Sprite only cost me €3 yesterday and a much nicer drink IMO

We like a rack of lamb. These have gone from €14.99 to €16.99 over a short period. Yesterday I noticed that Dunnes were now selling a half rack of lamb for €10.99.

That's a weird one, the 400g actually works out cheaper per kg than the 600g one.
The Lamb Rack Cutlet chops 370g for €9.99 probably work out better value as less waste. Great on a BBQ.

Keep an eye out in Tesco, with clubcard you can sometimes pickup rack of lamb (500g) for €8 half price.

It is always worth looking at different size packs in Dunnes and probably all the others. Sometimes only smaller packs might be on special.
At the moment in Dunne's 225 gram Batchelors beans are €6.89 for a 6 pack, but two 3 packs are only €5.70.
Barry’s decaf tea, 1 x 80 pack is €5.09, but 2 x 40 packs is only €4.00.
There are many other similar examples.

I am constantly amazed at the number of people who just grab a sliced pan without even looking at the best before dates. I have seen Brennan's Bread with a range of 3 best before dates on them. The older dates are only good for toast.

If it's older demographic, it could be a relic of the "today's bread today" era when maybe it was always fresh bread on weekdays...
Sometimes it's hard to make out the date too.
Squeeze test called for, as noted elsewhere.

You would certainly have to look at dates on milk in supermarket though...I see people take the ones at the front which only have about two days until it's out of date . But if you reach in to the back you will get milk with about four or five days until is out of date...

Does anyone follow, or even notice, the 'when opened use within 3 days and before the use by date', on milk cartons?
I ignore it and just use smell and taste, even after the use by date......

All use by and best before dates are ignored in this house! Smell test first and then taste if required. I always have a pack of smoked mackeral in the fridge and it could be a good month past it's date and it's still fine, I make pate out of it when the cream cheese is heading past it's best!

Just been to Dunnes today and notice the 1litre skimmed milk is gone from 1.15 to 1.25, add that to the hassle of them leaking, I freeze them so it's a nuisance when they leak in freezer as you can't stand them upright to freeze but today it leaked all over the till belt, guy behind till said it's gotten much worse since new lids with the stay on top.
