Trump launches meme coin

"figuring out why he won" is a problem for the US Democrats, it's nothing to do with us. We obviously need to react to his policies.

We do have right wing grifters here, and fortunately they're not making much headway. We shouldn't be complacent about that, but Trump is a phenomenon mostly based on one man. It's hard even to see who his successor is in the US (assuming he doesn't just try to stay on in 4 years, if he's still alive).
you cant serve more than 2 terms i believe? i am worried that the next wave feel he is the model they need to ape to get elected.

That was true a year ago but certainly not now. His obvious successor is his new VP.

The Democrats lost. Biden's ego and possibly dementia meant he backtracked on his commitment not to seek a second term and America is not quite ready for a coloured woman president.
Or a white woman even, not surprising in a country that has yet to enact the equal rights amendment first proposed in 1923

Or someone who wasn't popular enough to get nominated by her own party when she ran in her own right the first time.

even Trump doesn't seem to like JD, and may regret picking him. I haven't been following it closely but I get the impression that Trump's base have no great enthusiasm for him either.

I think that's probably a tad unfair.

I'd say America just wasn't ready to have someone who had a dreadful track record on pretty much everything, hastily cobbled together policy positions and couldn't be let off the lead to face one on one serious Journalist interviews without fear she'd be shown up as the empty vessel she is/was.

She was frankly, an appalling candidate.

Between Harris and Trump there is only one appalling candidate.

Harris was a VP, a Senator, a DA. People voting for her would have got more of the responsible governance they got from Biden, who steadied things after Trump.

Trump's track record:

But they were ready for someone who incited a mob to overturn the result of the last election, a mob threatening to hang his own VP... someone found liable in court for assaulting Jean E Carroll? For using campaign funds to pay hush money to cover up his affair with Stormy Daniels - again, established in an open court of law?

One of whose main talking points in the campaign was spreading racist lies about immigrants eating pets, racebaiting which led to bomb threats to that community.

Trump had no serious policies, nonsense about the price of eggs he is now trying to distract people from with Greenland nonsense.
Have a look at some of his speeches where he talks about wind farms, and whether to be eaten by sharks or electrocuted by electric boats. Let off the lead? Some of the stuff he came out with was barking mad, but was sane washed by the media.

Says a lot if you're not appalled by that from Trump but are appalled by Harris.

Oh and with this "meme coin" won't it make it easier for money to be funnelled to Trump to try to influence his policies?

What's worse than an "empty vessel"? One to be bought by the highest bidder.

Trump promised to drain the swamp... yeah into his own pockets:

But elected officials and legal experts are raising ethical and geopolitical concerns about the tokens, which they say could serve as a vehicle for bribery and conflicts of interest. “These coins open a channel for him to receive financial benefits from foreign adversaries and to prioritize his personal interests, to the collective detriment of Americans,” says Puja Ohlhaver, a lawyer affiliated with Harvard’s Allen Lab for Democracy Renovation.

Tom Doorley summing it up...

"Just heard @therestispolitics US and have discovered that you can now buy the president of the United States - he has initiated a money for favours system that will ensure his adnministration will be the most corrupt imaginable. What a time in which to live."

Trump sacks independent inspectors across multiple federal agencies whose role is to guard against corruption and abuse of office:

Congress created inspectors general in the wake of the Watergate scandal, as part of a wave of reforms intended to curb corruption, waste and fraud. The independent watchdogs - who work within federal agencies but are not controlled by the head of those agencies - are meant to serve as a guard against mismanagement and abuse of power.
