Hi,

I am currently on Plan B through the VHI. My policy is now up for renewal. However, I am travelling for a year and I don't know if I should renew it.

I have got travel insurance through a 3rd party

I had a cardiac problem last year, that is now fixed (hopefully!), so I don't want to be out of cover. The VHI states that cover is 'Limited to stays abroad of no more than 180 days'.

If I do not renew what are the implications for breaking my service record etc...

Thanks
J

Normal travel insurance won't cover you for an extended trip like this, so make sure that your own policy does cover you for the basics - you probably need a specialist 'backpacker' policy or similar. I guess you could possibly have some issues if you break your cover - Normally any pre-existing conditions are not covered when you join for the first 5 years. Check with VHI to be sure.

Vhi have this plan for if you'll be abroad long term

Wow that is € 2258.49 (I am going to Canada!), pretty steep as I have travel insurance already
