Have just put up coving in new build (like plaster stuff)

Someone advised me that there was no need to paint it, that it would stay as white as the ceilings and I wouldn't even notice.

The house has yet to get its first coat of paint yet

Can some professional advise

I paint the coving in my house the same colour as my ceiling white and it really shows. If you don't paint it, it will always look greyish and you will notice the joins more. Get it painted.

Paint Coving

Painting a sitting room at the moment. Walls French white(creamy white colour),ceiling is pure white. Wondering should I paint coving white same as ceiling or paint the coving a deeper shade than the walls to set off the coving? any ideas or experience. 9ft high ceilings in a square room.

If you paint the coving the same colour as the ceiling it will make the job much easier. You only have to get one edge right between the wall and the coving. If you paint the coving a different colour to both the wall and the ceiling you have to get two edges right.
I have been there done that and hopefully won't have to do it again for several years.

I think that coving should be painted and should match architraves (door surrounds) and skirtings if those are painted. Personally, I prefer the more restrained and less cold look of one of the near-whites rather than pure or brilliant white.

Have to say that it will look a lot better over the long run if the coving is painted in my opinion.

I agree with SlurrySlump; the job is much easier if you do it in the way SS describes.

Who makes the French White? Thinking of my hall, stairs and landing? Is it Laura Ashley?
overpriced rubbish in my opinion, just chatting to friend of mine today who is a paperhanger, and he hates laura ashley says nearly always there papers have flaws in them, they did a hotel last year and it all had too come down again after, cause of the flaws in it.and also a neighbour had some done and same thing...colortrend for the money is by far the best paint on the market..
