From The Dublin Inquirer:
Several millions paid in relation to Avalon House, Aungier Street - doesn't appear to have housed a single homeless person - it doesn't have necessary planning permission or fire cert. Unclear who the money is even being paid to, or why.
According to the finance reports the Dublin Region Homeless Executive (DHRE) paid €2.36m for Avalon House in 2020, €2.3m in 2021 and €2.4m in 2022. It notes the service provider through those years as the Peter McVerry Trust.. A spokesperson for the DRHE says the building is not currently used for anything, but that the Department of Housing has approved funding for renovations so it can be used again.
A council spokesperson says the building, which is meant to be a homeless hostel, is not in use because it needs remedial work and a new fire cert.
