Is there a stage when the environmentalists should accept the decisions of the the lower Courts and stop pursuing everything to higher Courts and via appeals?

Does the taxpayer have any vote in the recent Carrisckmines debacle / 2 year delay?

Should these guys have to pay all their (and the other sides) costs?

.......are these the views of a philistine?

leadbeaker

The philistines drank their wine from beakers of lead and tin which had a tremendous effect on their brain .Not only that they got drunk, they had visions too....

These people (in Carricmines) are not environmentalists, they are just Luddites. I can appreciate that the castle ruins are important but I can't accept that they are important enough to delay the only ring road around Dublin and cost millions of euro of tax payers money. There is something wrong with a system where one person can delay such an important project.

system

Hi purple!
Is there not something wrong with a system that is not working systematically-step by step?

Hi heinbloed,
There is something wrong with a system where every decision can be appealed right up to the supreme court.
At the risk of sounding extreme, the car-ik-minders should be buried in the foundations of the road (just like the Romans did!).

Re: system

Why couldnt the road be built around Carrickmines??

Because of all the houses they would have to knock down, the fact that the existing road would have to be re-routed, the years of extra delays and the tens of millions of extra cost....etc.

system

It is too late now to talk of rerouting the road.

There is something wrong with our system if a tiny number of protestors can frustrate the will of millions of taxpayers as expressed through their democratically elected government.

This is not democracy but an abuse and subversion of it.

Could a bridge not have been built?
yes it could, or a tunnel could have been dug or every car could drive onto a platform and be flown over the site of the former castle, but things like practicality and money have to be factored into the equation.
