Under the current Profit and Sustainability Regs (PSR), clubs are severely restricted in the amount of money they can spend, regardless of the wealth and generosity of owners. The Saudis would love the freedom to spend tens of millions more on attracting the best players, coaching staff etc but they’re precluded from doing so.Amazing what a vast amount of Saudi money can achieve
They'll catch up on Manchester United if things keep going the way they are.The focus is on spending relative to turnover which, while understandable, will continue to ensure that clubs like Newcastle will never catch up with the likes of Manchester City, United, Liverpool etc.
The problem with attracting world class players to Newcastle is that it's Newcastle. They have a relatively young squad , and have bought players for the future..
I was referring to the city, not the football club. If you're a 23 year old South American who is going to get paid £250,000 a week would you want to live in Newcastle or would you want to live in London?Just you wait , Purple, one of these days , very shortly, Newcastle will be one of the big six , whether people like it or want to admit it or not...

They are owned by the Saudi Arabians. They are part of their sports washing programme.Yeah, Newcastle's population growth is behind the national average and significantly behind some others with aspirations of joining the top clubs. Spending rules, their income limits what they can spend on transfers and wages. The owners of the football club have any amount of money but can't or are not allowed spend it...
But if you could have £250,000 a week in Newcastle or £250,000 a week in London which would you choose? If I was getting 250,000 I'd live in Newcastle....for a while at least...
