After 56 years the Magpies finally got their hands on a trophy. Also ending a 70 year wait for a domestic one.
A super win and well deserved.
A very happy fan , my son , in this house at least

Yes agree. I was in a pub watching it with Liverpool fans. At full time, most clapped and some stood up in praise of Newcastle. It was a nice moment. I remember in the 1990's when I was living in the UK, Newcastle were always up there, many times in finals with Manchester United and others. They seemed to have such bad luck, that went on for decades. Delighted for them.

Amazing what a vast amount of Saudi money can achieve
Under the current Profit and Sustainability Regs (PSR), clubs are severely restricted in the amount of money they can spend, regardless of the wealth and generosity of owners. The Saudis would love the freedom to spend tens of millions more on attracting the best players, coaching staff etc but they’re precluded from doing so.

The focus is on spending relative to turnover which, while understandable, will continue to ensure that clubs like Newcastle will never catch up with the likes of Manchester City, United, Liverpool etc.

In the circumstances, Newcastle’s win is indeed significant, even if the Carabao is the lesser of the ‘major’ trophies.

They'll catch up on Manchester United if things keep going the way they are.

I was shocked to find out that the prize money for the final was £100,000. Newcastle probably made about 170,000 going through all the rounds. FA cup final is 2 million (plus money for other rounds to go to about 3 million).

Match day receipts would also boost it and money from TV.
Not a great return on investment financially for a club.

Newcastle are ranked 7th in attendance in the PL, consistently 50,000 per game but I'm guessing they aren't charging as much as the Manchester clubs or big London clubs.

The prices could rise , after this, next season.
And yes even with all the Saudi money they are very much restricted in what they can spend. They had to actually sell one of their players earlier this season to fund another transfer.....
So money is not everything.......all the time.

In terms of turnover, I believe Newcastle are on around 250 million compared to around 600/700 million for the bigger clubs. That’s a huge gap to bridge before they can hope to compete on a sustained basis.

They will live on this for years...and sure the ' small money ' will also keep them going for perhaps even more years.
They have a relatively young squad , and have bought players for the future..
I would love to see them become one of the successful teams of the future.

Just you wait , Purple, one of these days , very shortly, Newcastle will be one of the big six , whether people like it or want to admit it or not...

I was referring to the city, not the football club. If you're a 23 year old South American who is going to get paid £250,000 a week would you want to live in Newcastle or would you want to live in London?

Yeah, Newcastle's population growth is behind the national average and significantly behind some others with aspirations of joining the top clubs. That said, football is such a money game right now, if they just attract the right billionaire to throw money at them they just might do it.

They are owned by the Saudi Arabians. They are part of their sports washing programme.

If I was getting 250,000 I'd live in Newcastle....for a while at least...
The owners of the football club have any amount of money but can't or are not allowed spend it...

But if you could have £250,000 a week in Newcastle or £250,000 a week in London which would you choose?

They'll only earn that sort of money for 8-10 years and that'll have to do them for the rest of their lives. After they pay their agent, their accountant etc it might only work out at £100 million or so (plus endorsements etc). God help them...
