Looking to get the daughter a new phone for Xmas. Tesco appear to have good offers on iPhones at the moment. Having never been a Tesco mobile customer I am looking for information as to how reliable they are as a service provider. Currently she's with Three but there upgrade plans are more expensive for the phone she wants.

Tesco mobile use the Three network, so their service is as reliable (or as unreliable) as Three's is in your location.

I used them for a few years and experienced no problems. I switched to GoMo when it was introduced (it uses the Eir network) and found that it offered me better data speeds.

I can't offer any advice on the value or otherwise of the phones that they offer.

great..there happy with current coverage so thats good.

I have invariably found it cheaper to buy separately from my provider.
Amazon can be hard to beat on price and then you can choose your Three MVNO.
I've been using 48 for over 10 years and been quite happy with them, however others have reported roaming issues.

Tesco are great at home but a disaster trying to use it abroad.

I bought my daughter a Tesco Mobile PAYG phone which needs upgrading now.

Haven't had any issues with coverage that I can remember.

The main benefit for me, is that if you shop in Tesco, 5 euro of vouchers can be used for a 15 euro top up for the month.

I've definitely used my Tesco mobile abroad without issues. Probably only in EU countries though.

I would suggest buying a refurbished phone outright from the likes of swappie or refurbed ( have used both befoer no issues). Then get the best mobile package which will probably be gomo or 48. I was with Tesco for about 12 years and switched to 48 for a cheaper plan ealier this year I did initially have issues roaming with tesco but once i figured out what to do when I went abroad i was sorted. I did have issues with 48 roaming during the summer in the UK which was a pain. If it happens again when abroad I'll consider swithching back to Tesco.

It seems like some customers of all MVNOs experience problems with roaming but I've never seen anything that explains why or predicts when problems might occur and who is likely to be hit by them. And the low cost nature of most MVNOs means that when problems occur support can be slow or lacking... :( I've been with 48 for ages and never had any roaming problems but it's a long time since I've been abroad.
