Domestic day subsistence rates (from 14 December 2023)
The assignment must be outside eight kilometres of the employee's home and normal place of work.

For calculating subsistence should we use as the "crow flies" or the actual driving distance.?

Any organisation I know of uses the shortest route available per Google maps.

I think common sense would suggest that it's the shortest distance by road. Particularly if there's an associated mileage claim, as the two go hand in hand in a practical sense.

Unless the amount involved is likely to be material (lots of people X lots of days), I wouldn't be sweating it.

What there not a government minister calculated it via the longest route. I take the longest route sometimes to avoid traffic.
