I had a pleasant word with the guy down the road who regularly blocked the path with his car, explaining how it was very dangerous when pushing the baby in the buggy to have to go out onto the road near the junction.

He now parks on the road MOST of the time.

By all means, try reasonable approaches first — but if these fail to achieve the desired effect, and the problem is a recurrent one... simply stroll by again, after dark, and insert the head of a matchstick into the tyre valves of two tyres — one on each side of the vehicle — thus releasing all the air from them. Ideally, slip a piece of paper under the windscreen wiper expressing your deep regret ( ) and explaining that you'll be happy to cease and desist — if they can manage to park in a less unsociable manner...

You thereby cause no "criminal damage" whatsoever to the vehicle, but inflict on the offender the inconvenience of arranging for at least one lift to the nearest forecourt (unless they have a second spare stashed in their garage). Fair exchange, it seems to me, for forcing X number of passing pedestrians to step off the pavement into the traffic — or am I all wrong here..?

People with buggies, reduced mobility, etc. deserve a little more consideration, IMHO...

Doc, I gotta say your suggestion of malicious damage is unlawful and prosecutable. Please refrain from advocating vigilante justice. Try shopping the lout(s) to the Gardai on 1890 205 805. Works a charm. The potato-sucking moron will get the 'points' in the post.

Probably came within 10-15 feet of a head on collision this morning. About 6.30AM so it was dark, Long straight stretch of straight road, some idiot decided to overtake as many cars as he could even though I was coming towards him in the other direction.

Now, if you see a string of headlights coming towards you in the dark in can be a little tricky to work out if one of them is on your side of the road, until they are quite close to you.
An indicator might have helped.

Last minute swerve onto the hard shoulder helped avoid him.

I've encountered a couple of those kind shocks on the road too. It doesn't half unblock your arteries.

The confusion a string of lights approaching you can cause scares me sometimes. Motorbikes overtaking can cause the same confusion.

Has anyone else noticed how the cars most likely to overtake WITHOUT using indicators are top of the range models, presumably driven by the HAVES in our society? Apparantly, what they HAVEN'T is the courtesy to use the indicator, or perhaps indicators were an option they chose not to exercise when ordering the fancy motor.

I may be showing my own bias here, but young male drivers in small diesel vans seem to me to be the worst offenders in terms of aggressive driving and risky manoeuvres. The "crew cab" also seems to have more than its share of aggressive drivers (more so than the ordinary 4x4 as far as I can judge).

Due to darkness and my "evasive driving" I couldn't make out the Model of Car. I don't think it was a Luxury car though.

As a former BMW driver can I just say that not all BMW & Merc drivers are that bad. You find your fair share of gobshites driving Ford's, Nissan's, Toyota's, Honda's etc.

Also there is a general tendancy among other motorists to cut off the BMW or not let it into traffic. My own personal favourite experience was when people in sh**ty Ford Escorts would flick me the Finger. Always amused me.

I drive a more sensible car now, more in keeping with my frugal AAM Persona.

Why sh**ty cars in particular? Do you think they were jealous? - or was it some other reason?

Many people just get a car to go from A to B, and aren't really interested in spending €€€€€s on it. The sh**ty car drivers might have money invested in non-massively depreciating assets. (Like property or enjoyable stuff)

Did you get the same amusement from people in Mercs who 'flicked you the finger'?
