Key Post Step by step guide to applying for UK State Pension

I have a question re CF38.
Question 27: Does this employer hold a contract of service?
Does this apply to self employed persons or could it mean the contract you had as an employee of the company?
Thanks

So to be 100% clear

1. you are not self employed
2. you worked in the UK for Acme Limited (UK), in the Womble Town, AppleShire office.
3. you are still working for Acme Limited (UK), now based out of the BallyGoForwards Co Cork office

do I have that correct?

I got my NINO in the post today and submitted the online form. Got a bit too excited and sent the form in, ticked yes box instead of saving and updating as and when I got advice. Nothing I can do now. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I filled out the form online today for himself. He moved to England from Ireland in 1989 to 1996 / 1997 approx. It was a long time ago so he doesn’t remember the dates exactly. He's been working in Ireland since he returned home. So our dates are vague, Ive just used approx ones. Will this be ok? I have no way of getting actual dates for these. Will that go against his application? My view on it, is that at least he's in system now? It took us months to even get his national insurance number but eventually got there.

If you have given his NI number, HMRC have all of the details in front of them. Employers, dates etc. In fact everything about his UK work history.

I do not know for certain, but I think that the detail they want from you is to confirm, that you are not a scammer/ imposter trying to claim someone else's rightful pension.
I do not know how much detail they want, but if you have name, dob, his HMRC correspondence address from around 1990 and a name of even one employer, that should deffo be enough

Hi there
Thank you so much for this thread. I followed the step by step guide and got the CF83 form off on time. I haven't received any letter or email re: payment method and just happened to go into my online HMCR today to see it is all updated and the payment for back years is due to be paid by this Friday!!

I didn't get any letter or notification...will this deadline date for payment apply for me ? I haven't been contacted. I was expecting to have to pay later in the summer ( and have a source sorted) Will I lose out if I don't pay by Friday?

Hope someone can advise please
thanks

Thanks for replying ....much appreciated (again)

February - when I was told here by you ( thanks so much for that ) on this forum to - JUST GET IT IN!! :) I got an acknowledgement email of receipt of the form straight away and a ref number - but nothing since.

With all the talk about delays I thought it would take ages for them to get back - and I requested that they respond by email/letter - and I received nothing by post/email so presumed I was in the queue being processed

I nearly died this morning when I saw that it was all up there ( I had my NI number so must have been faster to process) and with the deadline for payment for this Friday :/

What should I do? Many thanks for any advice...

The online record defaults (it seems) to show Class 3 payments for everyone, so my question is do you believe you are entitled to Class 2?

You are most likely aware that there is a significant difference in cost.

So, as to what you should do - my advice is get on the phone to them in the morning at 8am, or as soon as you can after that.

Quote your reference number and see can you get definitive guidance from them. Speaking for myself only, I wouldn't be inclined to pay a large amount of money at Class 3 in a panic, if I was satisfied that I could do so at Class 2.

Of course your age, and amount of back years available to you will be a consideration too.

Thanks again for your reply...I looked at the acknowledgement email again and it says "We will write to you to confirm if your application has been approved". I have received nothing in writing ( no email and no letter) so per your advice...I'm sitting tight.
Thank you.
