Hi there,

Mods hope this is in correct forum if not pleasemove.

My mother suffers from pulminary fibrosis which makes breathing increasingly difficult.


Would you know of any person who may have a stair lift that we could use please as we have a long stairs.

We can travel- we are based in Cork and can offer reasonable payment for this. These items are very expensive and now because of government budget cuts grants are no longer available we understand-is this correct please?



If you could provide assistance we would be very grateful.

Hi Noel, in relation to the grant I assume this is the one available from your local county council- perhaps just ring and ask if you can still apply?

In relation to the stair lift itself have you tried an ad in the provincial newspapers? 'Wanted-stairlift' might well find you a second-hand one no longer needed. I saw one advertised on jumbletown.ie a while back so you could also put something in the wanted section there.

It might not be suitable but you could also ask your local public health nurse if he/she knew of anyone who had a stair lift installed that might no longer need it?

My parents applied for the grant for this about last April, after a few monthes they were told that there was insufficient funds at the moment to supply one to them. They have chronic illnesses like Parkinsons, osteoporosis etc, live alone and are in their eighties, so Good Luck to you if you apply!However, the company we were going to use (Stannah), supply and fit an excellent product, I read on their literature that they take back used chairs (less than three years old), from people who no longer need them. I haven't queried this with them yet but they may be able to supply one at a reduced price. try www.stannah.ie.
 
I don't believe it. Just today my Mum got a letter from the powers that be, to say they are granting her E3000 towards her stair lift. So keep trying Noel123. :)

There is an Acorn Stairlift for sale on the buy and sell website.
