I have recently lost my father and made a silly mistake by using the solicitor who had housed the will. They sent me an engagement letter to sign to which later I was charged £30.00 is this allowed?

It got worse because when I was asked by the solicitor to send by attachment various documents, like passport bank statement I was charged £30.00 for doing so.

This is daylight robbery to me, has anyone got any advice?

Did you not ask about fees before you engaged the solicitor?

By letter or by email... that shouldn't matter => the solicitor is entitled to be paid for their work/time.

As you are using the £ symbol, it looks as if you are in the UK but my answer remains the same.
