Maybe my views are old school but anything that people in general require to either live or are required by law to have like electricity, gas, car insurance should be run by the Government so as to ensure fair rates and not greed.
Yep, and the current ones like the HSE offer slim hopes that current administrations would fare any better.The old semi state companies (ESB, Bord na Mona, Aer Lingus and CIE, to name some examples) often seemed to be run mainly for the benefit of their "greedy" employees!

You forgot the best one, Telecom Eireann, the employees were very very well looked after.Except that a government running a public service offers no guarantee of fair rates, efficiency or effectiveness!
