Signing Mortgage Contract with AIB

Hi,

Buying place of plans, ready in few months. About 2 months ago, got full mortgage approval in the form of long letter from AIB with property address, mortgage details etc in post. One sent to solicitor too.

Says in letter sign in the company of solicitor within one month or else the offer will lapse. Met solicitor who never mentioned the need to sign and return it.

Is this a big problem having missed the deadline? (not one for reading the small print)

Thx

your solicitor should of had you in to sign by now.... unless you have not yet signed contract to purchase and sol is waiting to get you in to sign loan offer and contract at the same time.. Most loan offers are valid for 6 months so 1 month seems strange... my advice would be to ring AIB explain you have not signed offer and if need be to reissue to your solicitor. Check with your solicitor when they anticipate you will be signing contract presuming you have not already and ensure the new offer from AIB is issued to conincide with date of signing contract.

I did the same with BOI - missed the deadline and it ran into 7 weeks, and it was no problem for them - they held the offer. Give the bank a call if you're in doubt to let them know.

I agree with splash it should not be any big problem these things happen and the banks are well used to them happening i think once they go over 6 month you must reapply for your morgage but im not 100 % sure about this.
