Hi,
I am starting a self build project soon. I haven't decided what kind of flooring will go where but I am under the following assumptions - please correct me if I am wrong;
Solid Wooden Floors: I need to put down 9 inch joists straight onto the concrete raft foundation after hardcore and binding done. I can insulate between these joists. I can put chipboard on top of the joists before i lay the solid wood flooring to lessen the 'springyness'. Not sure where service pipes go in this case. Thru the joists ?
Semi-Solid Floors: This is generally cheaper than solid wooden floors. I need to put insulation boards (100mm) on concrete raft foundation after hardcore and binding done. Then I need to pour 75mm screed (smoother concrete) on top of insulation and service piping. Then I lay the semi-solid flooring.
Tiles : Same as semi-solid floors.
Laminate flooring : Same as semi-solid floors.
To sum up, if I am laying solid flooring, I need to prevent the screed subfloor being poured in that room.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
