One, HOLTS branded stuff, bought from a car accessory shop, the other, generic own brand, bought in LIDL. HOLTS €8 for 5 litres, LIDL €3.99 for 5 litres. I know its not a four-figure sum, but it is a €4.01 saving, a better than hlf-price deal.

Neither lists composition, nor do they give instructions, but you won't need a highly paid professional to fill the washer bottle, just your car manual and common sense.

That could freeze in winter though if left sitting in the container that feeds your washers.

You can dilute either of them. The instructions on the concentrated one say use neat during winter, so it's currently worse value than the ready to use.

No thanks as I read years ago that washing up liquid can leave a shiny residue on windscreens that doesn't help night vision. An AA, RAC or AAA newsletter was the source. Plus kitchen washing-up liquid is no help at all as an antifreeze for the washer bottle, the tubes, or the spray jets. In fact, this article from NZ states it may damage components in the windscreen washer system.

I use a micro-fibre cloth dampened with a solution of windscreen washer fluid and a dash of white vinegar to clean the side windows inside and out. I dry them and polish them off with a dry micro-fibre cloth to make sure no vinegar gets at paint-work or metal. I don't use it on the rear window as vinegar may damage the electrical connections for the window heater.

It can indeed - always read the small print folks. The label says to use neat in winter, dilute 1:1 in autumn, and 1:9 in summer!!

The LIDL one makes no comments about dilution ratios, so I'm guessing its just "ready to use".

Mix some washing up liquid with water and leave in a glass for a few days, watch as some of it congeals back into a gel that would result in blocked pipes. Salt and alcohol content isn't ideal either.

Noticed this in an EV there a couple of weeks back - there’s no waste heat from an engine to eventually defrost frozen water, so I’ll have to start using an anti-freezing washer solution now.
