Ryanair. If you don't pay for a seat, you may have to queue to get a boarding pass

Current detail from their website (FAQ):
DENIED BOARDING
Ryanair, as a policy, does not overbook its flights. However, in
the unlikely event that a seat is not available for a passenger
with a confirmed reservation, we will seek volunteers to
surrender their seats in exchange for benefits that we and the
volunteer may agree upon before involuntarily denying
boarding to other passengers. If there are insufficient
volunteers and we deny you boarding involuntarily, you are
entitled to the rights set out below.

I expect that queuing up to have a seat assigned also gives the staff a good opportunity to object to your carry-on and charge you for same.

Just checked in online for Ryanair flight this evening. With random seating usually my wife and I board one at front and the other at rear. This time we got 3B and 5B !!

We have regularly got better seating (exit row, front row) by choosing random allocation for our family.

We're both happy to chose random seating for flights up to ~90 minutes. Longer than that, we pay to sit beside one another!

Huge fan of random seat allocation as regular flights are 4hrs long and that time just flies by if there's an interesting person, who's willing to engage in a conversation, sitting beside you. Middle is best as you've two chances.

I go for the middle seat at the front or at the exits where it's most expensive so hopefully Ger will be in a middle seat elsewhere.

I generally pay for my seat I think that if they are overbooked which does happen that they will refuse a non selected seat person first. I might be delusional but thats my thoughts on it.

We had a flight booked with Ryan Air for November and it has been changed three times. This meant that we had to alter our hotel arrangements. So we applied for the refund which is in progress. Booked the flights with AL in the sale , cheaper than originally. But the hotel is now dearer than it was originally but it is a very nice hotel. So hope flights won't be changed again.

probably the passenger cap, they cutting flights that are below capacity so they can allocate to peak demand flights as the number of flights now curtailed by passenger cap, november being close to year end but also not christmas peak?

Here we go again...

If people aren't happy with how Ryanair do business, then they shouldn't deal with them.

If enough people move their custom to other airlines, Ryanair will have to do better, to try and win their business back.

Anyone with a legitimate grievance, should also make formal complaints to Ryanair, and the Regulator, where appropriate.

In fairness we have traveled with Ryan Air for years because of the difference in price mainly and wouldn't have been to many places only for of them.
I wasn't even whining about them I was just saying what can happen , with any airline, and will do business with them again ........if the price is right.....of course.

I had put together a November package about 10 days ago to fly to France with Ryanair and back with Aer Lingus. Picked the hotel and then went in to book the Ryanair leg......and the flights had disappeared. I now have to cut a day off the planned break or add two extra days.
Thankfully I hadn't booked the Ryanair flights.

I have also been looking at a Portugal destination for next March.....no way will I book anything with Ryanair until much closer the time.

Having had Ryanair threaten me with legal action some years ago, I try to play them at their own game I.e get the cheapest possible flight, buy nothing on board, pay as little extras as possible and informed all who know me never to give me a present of Ryanair vouchers (if they don’t want to give me cash, Dunnes Stores vouchers are excellent).

I use Ryanair to my own advantage. My baggage is never outside size or weight limits. I bring my own food and drink onboard and marvel at the other passengers paying high prices for low class food and goddawful drinks. I have an innocent face and it is not unusual for me to be chosen by Ryanair staff for their special treatment. I co-operate, of course and appear the victim (occasional showman as I am) and usually the Ryanair attendants are thanking God and hoping I will just leave them in peace. If you need training for this have a look at Harry Worth on YouTube.

And Brendan,if you are unhappy sitting next to @GSheehy, I know you’d love sitting next to me and I won’t mention the war.
