Roof works & improvements

Hello,

I've been considering getting some work done on our house, namely:

* Getting uPVC Fasciats and Soffits (to replace existing wood, about 40 years old, and in need of some maintenance)

* Replacing the Gutters and Water DownPipes, with UPVC ones

* Cement pointing and possibly one or two tiles replaced.

Has anyone done this kind of work to their home, in recent times, and able to share any tips, or words of wisdom?

Also, I'd be interested in getting a sense for the kind of prices paid, for any recent work done.

Many thanks.

Roofing is a total can of worms as there are so many cowboy "contractors" around. Do not fall for legitimate looking websites, often with a generic address. Check the address on google maps or in person to see if there is in fact a business located there. Any sort of pushy sales technique, do it right now tactics etc run a mile.

There are only two genuine roofing contractors that I know in Dublin (there are no doubt more but I don't know them)

I have used both without any issue, I recommend getting a few quotes in any case.

Hello,

Thank you for the reply, and yes, I agree entirely, you always do your research and get a few quotes.

Not being funny, but how did you specifically identify those two?

Mind me asking what work they did for you etc?

One of my neighbours has used the party that I'm thinking of using, and he has recommended them, having himself got references before he hired them.

I got all fascia, sofits, junction boxes, gutters and downpipes replaces. Did a fair bit of research and went with a personal recommendation I'm the end, very happy with job.

Had to wait months for the guy to be available too, let me know if you want me to email you details.

Btw, I had another roofer who I'd used before let me down after waiting 6 moths for him to start, Had others willing to do job immediately which I declined and had some rather ridiculous quote. Others who looked at j9b and never got back to me.

Guy I went with was certainly no cheap but hard to compare as I went with aluminium in the end where most other quotes were for upvc

You are 100% correct. I have an issue with a flat roof repair on my new build but there's no end of generic website addresses and that is one giveaway that you're not dealing with anyone reputable. If anyone on here would recommend a reputable roofer who's good on flat roofs around the Waterford city/Tramore area please recommend.
