Yep, real simple sums. You deduct allowable outgoings, like bills for the vans, from income and pay tax on the difference. Either that or there might be more questions to be answered to Revenue.
 
The costs you incur for the vans are offset against your tax bill, so why the whinging as if you're ordinary wage earners, rather than being capitalists?
Can't they be both?
Someone running a small business is a PAYE earner and so an "ordinary wage earner". They are also the backbone of the economy.

OK I was misinterpretating what you meant by offset.
I wonder how PAYE taxpayers would react if their boss said he was going pay them less but they've no reason to whinge because they'll be paying less tax as a result..
