Revolut RevPoints Deposits

Just jumping back to an earlier point in this discussion on RevPoints:

1. Does anyone have a view as to whether Revenue would consider earning Revpoints in this way to be taxable?
2. What would happen in this case? Could it be imposed on the depositor in arrears, or would Revolut have to bear the cost of the mistake of not informing/deducting it in the first place?

My view is DIRT is charged on interest earned.

Revpoints are clearly not classified as interest. Whether they should be or not is another story.

Therefore, DIRT n/a or relevant in this scenario.

Looking at my Revolut account, it seems I cannot earn Rev points unless I sign up to the Spare Change feature. I have no issue with that but I don't wish to 'automatically' buy Rev points from the Spare Change account. Am I understanding the process correctly? I want to get the points but not buy them from Spare Change.

On standard plan if you turn off spare change completely you do not earn points from spare change or from card transactions.

Gosh.

This product is even more complex with gotcha T&Cs than I realised. Good old sneeky Revolut.

To be crystal clear, is it correct that you don't earn RevPoints on lump sum balances inside your Pocket on the Standard package unless you have RevPoints switched on and Pocket Points switched on and Spare Change (spare change auto spent on points) switched on?

This is far from clear inside the Revolut app.

Thanks.

My understanding is that spare change must be turned on. It automatically buys rev points. You can’t have spare change set to go to another pocket as you can only have it set to one on the standard plan. When you go to switch it off you lose the points earning potential when you use your card

Not sure about whether turning off spare change impacts points pockets.

It’s no clearer here really

Okay, thanks, so it is not crystal clear if turning off "Spare Change" (a near-scam that makes you purchase near worthless points) impacts "Points Pockets" but it does impact points via transactions.

Why on earth can Revolut not make this type of thing crystal clear?

I contacted the Revolut Support bot who said:

It is mandatory to have the Spare Change feature activated in order to earn RevPoints from card payments and challenges.

But it is not mandatory to have the Spare Change feature activated in order to earn RevPoints via Pocket Points.

i.e. You can earn Pocket Points without activating Spare Change.

Also have a lot of Revolut points (metal plan), but I am allergic to these point reward system and avios (despite also having large amounts of avios). It is so incredibly complicated with all the options and potential valuations of points. There is just no satisfaction as inevitable you wonder are you left short changed or need to spend hours doing research and time is money.

I would very much like to understand the best way to convert these points to cash without too much thought and at consistently reasonable value.

On the purchase conditions applicable to purchases it seems to be a condition that cookies are enabled. I wonder if this another way that Revolut earns from this arrangement. So if I buy through my L&S app where I don’t have cookies enabled rather than using the website in the browser with cookies enabled do I still earn?

I certainly don't recall knowingly consenting to this and certainly not the points element. Looks like they will refund the "spare change"after request but say it's a once off, but looks scamlike to me
