My house is about 30 years old. The roof felt is torn inside the attic. I have discovered there is water coming in at certain times. The hole is about one sq foot . How is the best way to repair this roof felt from the inside and stop the water.

there is a spray on foam type for this, like insulating your cavity wall it hardens and insulates roof as well

I had a similar problem. I cut a slice in the felt below where the leak was and inserted a new piece of felt into the slice and tacked the new felt to the rafters above where the leak was so any water coming in would drip onto the new felt and run down and re-route to the old `good` section....if that makes sense.
I cant really see any spray on foam being watertight in situations like this.

Any builders providers but it comes in something like 10 metre lenghts! you would probably only need a metre or so. I`m sure a builders providers would give you a small piece. Lots of people have bits of this stuff thrown around the shed or garage. If you are stuck get back to me with roughly how much you need and I will have a look in my shed for a bit (Dublin south)

you cannot and will not be able to fix roof from inside with any method it has to be stripped from outside to do job right. 1.firstly stick a coat hanger out trought the hole from attic so you know where to strip roof.2.strip roof about 1-2 tiles each side of rafter where hole is.3.you might have to lift batton slightly just enough to slide new felt in makeing sure to get it under felt above it.4 replace all tiles and you have a sealed roof

Of course you can!
i`m assuming it`s just the felt that`s torn and not a gaping hole through the slates/tiles.
