hi, i was wondering if anyone could help me. I have had a business partnership for 10 years and have we have decided to go our seperate ways. I am keeping the business name, very little is changing apart from being pat and mick t/a joe bloggs to pat t/a joe bloggs. Now my question is Do i have to reregister the name again and for vat purposes? What would be my best way to go about it?

Any help at all would be great

Will you be trading under your own personal name e.g. Pat Murphy, or will you be trading under a business name e.g. Murphy Construction?
 
As far as the CRO is concerned you need to re-register as a sole trader.

file a form RBN3 with CRO (no charge) to cease the current trading name, and file a form RBN1 (€40 manual/€20 online) to register yourself as the sole trader.
 
you will need to de-register the partnership for VAT and income tax and register yourself as a sole trader with your own VAT number (which will be the same as your PPS number). if you're in the construction industry this will be a bit of hassle as you might need new C2, payments cards etc, and Revenue aren't exactly the quickest in the world.
