hey everyone just a quick question

i have recently applied for rent allowance and have been refused.

the reason i was given as to why i didn't qualify was that my partner is receiving a maintenance grant from the VEC, which is "ment to pay for rent" (her words[cwo]) is this true? im not entailed to anything if he is receiving this grant?

im on job seekers allowance at the moment and have a 7month old daughter and im currently living with my partner. i was renting for over 6months before applying for rent allowance. i also currently have a medical card.

thanks guys
sarah

Is your partner in full-time education? He doesn't qualify for Rent Supplement if he's a full-time student (unless he's on a Back to Education scheme).

According to the SW website, Maintenance Grants paid by the VEC or other local authorities for educational purposes are not assessable for Rent Supplement.

(see list under "Income not taken into account when calculating Rent Supplement).
