recommend a rich light luxurious paint for dark hall?

Hi, we have a dormer house, hall is in a T shape, no windows down the hallway, just in the porch area so our hall is quite dark. Our doors and skirting are oak. I painted the hallway in a lemon yellow and standing back now, 6 months later, I really don't like it, neither does my husband. I checked out other ranges + the antique range in fleetwood which is really the colours I love and I tried the fleetwood cockles and mussels colour (rich mustard) but it is too dark especially against the oak, but I love that idea.

Does anoyone have a recommendation for me, a nice rich paint that won't clash with oak, give a luxurious feel, I want to keep the hall golden in colour, rich, creamy, cosy but not darkening it, I am on my 5 paint pot of wall paint and still at a loss!!!!

Any rich colour is going to make a small dark area look even smaller and darker.
Your best option is to go with a light colour paint and add some life to it ,with colourful pictures in oak frames to tie in with your oak doors and skirting. A mirror will reflect light and give the impression of a wider space.

Did you look at the Fleetwood Timeless range - Sepia 01 or Mink 01 would work really well with the woodwork you have...

Abbica I've just finished painting my hall - it can also be quite dark as I discovered first time I painted it years ago.

I am now a total convert to the Colortrend DeVine paints - they are superb and worth the bit extra they cost. If you contact them they will send you their colourcards or check out their website.

I had the same problem recently and tried a few different colours. The best I found for being a rich, luxurious colour was Farrow & Ball paints.....I got the colour Matchstick which is beautiful.

The only problem was that for emulsion they were charging €75 for 5 litres! I went to Nash's Paints in Dundrum who made up the colour for me - €44 for 10 litres They also made up a satinwood tin in a slightly lighter shade for the skirting etc.
The best thing about Nash's was that they said if I wasn't happy with the colour or wanted it lightened I could bring it back and they'd adjust it.

I would suggest a pale cream colour with some bold coloured accessories in small amounts for contrast. For example, pictures, vases etc.

Thanks, the colourtrend charts are great, ordered them by post, so I think basically I am looking at a light beige, the usual. I wish I bought the white doors and skirting in hindsight, cheaper also. I prefer the rich walls with white skirting etc to the light walls with oak. I know, haven't I little to complain about but it was something I never considered, just jumped at the oak.
