Recommend a Book

On a slightly sadder note, I see CJ Sansom died yesterday. Loved his Shardlake series of books and I am looking forward to being disappointed by the box set on Disney which is available from tomorrow.
Yep, mildly disappointed, had I not read the books I would not have stuck with it

Waco: David Koresh, the Branch Davidians, and A Legacy of Rage
Jeff Guinn

A very interesting read into how people can be led by influential people. It's no wonder so many people today are caught up in conspiracy theories!

I'd give it 7/10... Started & ended well but a little tedious in the middle.

"Tartar Steppe" by Dino Buzzati:eek:Very kafkian... That continuous waiting for something to change... That feeling that habits can leave a not easy to heal scar... Mind-opening to my view!

"Volt Rush" the winners and losers in the race to go green.
Thought provoking if you're trying to be responsibly green , in particular in relation to EV's.

With an Election process underway, I can recommend " Why is this Lying Bastard lying to me?" By Rob Burley. Explores political interviewing in the UK over a couple of decades.

The three books written by Tan Twon Eng:
The Gift of Rain, (long-listed for the Man Booker Prize), The Garden of Evening Mists, (won the Man Asian Literary Prize and Walter Scott Prize, short-listed for the Man Booker Prize and the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award), and his most recent work, The House of Doors,
are very powerful reads.

How about Anna Karenina ?

Better still, And Quiet Flows The Don by Sholokhov.

All four volumes?

You're on about Sholokhov's book ?

Well, within that book it may be divided into "volumes" or "books" 9just natural breaks in the narrative really) but it's all the one volume.

But don't be distressed that it's only ~ 600 pages, as there's a sequel called The Don Flows Home To The Sea which runs to another 700 odd pages - tough stuff too.

Anna K is a better bet of you're more philosophical and/or romantic.

Wellness - Nathan Hill

Superb read, so much so that I got out another of his books from the library now (The Nix). Wellness follows a couple through marriage, showing the pressures they experience as a couple, as parents, in society and personally. It touches on some topical issues such as social media and conspiracy theories. Really enjoyed it.
