If a lighbulb blows, you can no longer see the dirt.

There were some great stories about rural electrification, but the one I remember is women seeing how 'dirty' their homes were for the first time and being horrified.

When I was growing up, I remember our elderly neighbour hated sunny days, because the light coming in the window showed up dust floating in the air.
