My insurance ran out by 4 days today, and today I got a text message offering to renew my insurance from the 4th of November last.

I wonder if my house had burnt down over those 4 days would the company have paid out.
Not a sausage springs to mind.

My understanding is that most insurance companies operate a grace period. So you would probably be ok.

However, if you had been looking around for quotes and had decided not to renew, they probably would not pay out.

Unfortunately I've been busy and over looked my renewal this year, but all I wanted was to renew my insurance for the full amount quoted, but starting from the 4th November and ending a year later.

So everyone's happy, what's the point of the thread then?

No point your right, I should have posted the thread in the letting off steam forum, my apologies.

I thought that the reason they now send renewals almost a month before was to remove the "grace period"?
No, that requirement was forced upon them by the regulator to better inform consumers and give them more time to shop around for better deals.
