I am about to get rid of the grass in the back garden and replace with some sort of little stones, I have cut the grass tight, so before I put some sort of membrane sheet to stop grass growing again, should I cover grass with diesel /petrol to kill grass weeds altogether before I put the sheet down. any tips please feel free ,

Deffinitely don't use petrol or diesel, that will contaminate the soil! Let the membrane do its job.

Dodo I would be interested in doing something similar with my back garden. Can you explain to me what the process is, does the membrane go down permanently and then the stones on top of it? (Sorry if that is a stupid question but I havent a clue)!

old black plastic would be the cheapest membrane to use, put a few holes in it to let the water seep down as well

Agatha that is abou the size of it, I think I might skim the top of the grass, not sure if added value but the erxercise will do me good, then I will put down the membrane, I always noticed that some people still have grass grown at the edges even after membrane put down, so I will remove all grass from edges and di small trench and tuck in the membrane into the trench, like th eway th emake a bed up in a nice hotel,or as you do to your little ones at night. feel free to ask anymore Q, have gardener in the family,

Well, a gardener in the family should have told you that you don't pour petrol/diesel onto the grass ...

Buy a roll of builder's film .... cover the whole lot and relax ..... all green stuff will die off.
