Public vs Private

I’m currently in a job that I mostly like , hours ok etc but no career opportunity ,no flexibility etc. I’ve been offered a job in the public sector grade 3 so potentially taking a step back career wise. But I’m a mother of 1 and looking for the best options for work life balance. Should I stay in the job I (mostly) like with no flexibility however I’ve the option of taking 1 day a week parental leave or do I take the public sector job for less money but more flexibility and more time off options long term?

Is the job in the public service permanent or contract ? There would be more opportunities in the public service to move upwards but you would need to be doing courses and taking on more responsibility. Only you can decide which is more important for you - it would be a good idea to check with others in the public service to see what kind of flexibility they have - do you have to have build up some service first?
