prize bonds win tax implications

Just won a couple of €75 on the Prize Bonds in the last 3 months. Are the winnings tax free or do they have to be declared ?
There are two questions here.
Yes they are tax free.
But the unanswered one is do you have to declare them?

I dont know the answer but in the same way rent a room below the threshold is tax free, you still are supposed to declare it.

I've never bothered declaring any (marginal) PB winnings myself.

FWIW (maybe nothing) ChatGPT says that you don't need to declare them unlike some other forms of tax exempt income.

Unfortunately, this tells us a lot more about ChatGPT than it does about Prize Bonds.

Part 07-01-13 of the TDM is entitled "United Nations and Specialised Agencies of the United Nations" and has nothing whatsoever to say about Prize Bonds

The Tax Emption relating to Prize Bonds (and other State Savings products) is covered in part 19-07-10 of the TDM "Miscellaneous exemptions for certain kinds of property". There is no mention in this section of a reporting requirement, neither in the negative nor affirmative.

Revenue Leaflet IT1 is long defunct. Replaced by information panels on the revenue.ie website.

The last version of IT1 that I can find, dated 2016, does not contain the wording quoted, and in fact makes no mention of reporting in relation to Prize Bond Winnings.

I have failed to find this working anywhere on revenue.ie. Furthermore, the mention of prize bonds here is oddly specific. And for anyone familiar with the Revenue conduct themselves (especially the current closed minded and tightlipped regime) the wording sounds quite unlike Revenue.

In summary, the three sections of this response look to be made up crap, wrapping the offending text in quotation marks exacerbates the error as it lends an air of authenticity and none of the source links point to the erroneous text.

Perhaps posting ChatGPT generated rubbish as a response to a legitimate question is not a great idea.

I don't think regurgitated ChatGPT answers are appropriate on a forum like this. People want a human answer otherwise they would just Google it themselves. Not someone to paste their question into a AI.

It's a useful tool and even if the general thrust of an answer is right, all the details are guff and need to be individually checked, preferably before being posted.
