Hi. After the storm, all power gone except for TV and 1 light are working. All trip switches are okay. Can anyone explain this?
Thanks in advance for any help.

You mean if you plug the TV into a different socket it doesn't work?

Do you mean one ceiling light or one lamp plugged into a socket?

No harm in switching your house off and on again by toggling the main "fuse box" switch to see if that makes any difference? ;)

There could be power issues in the area, a "brownout", some devices may be able to handle the low voltages better than other.

If it is a brownout, it is best not to use expensive appliances until you are confident general power issues are resolved.

I had a incident years ago where the overhead neutral cable blew down. The supply to the house continued to operate to earth. This continued for several days before the fault was repaired.

The voltage was low and varied up and down depending on how much load was switched on in our house and a few neighbours houses.

This was well before the days of fancy electronic appliances.
The valve television operated intermittently, and the filament bulbs were self dimming.

Not related but my power was out for last 2 days, I got a generator for couple of hours to power fridge freezer to maintain cold. The fridge light came on but no noise of freezer actually coming on , so was convinced that it was not now working even though light coming on. So I dragged another unused one from my father's house to my house, alot of effort and put that to generator but also the original one. After 20 mins the original one started working aswell. A quick Google explained that this brand does not come on even if temperatures is high but spends 20 minutes initialliising, but no indication of what is happening just a fridge light. Not very helpful when you need to get it powered up during power cut that it spends so long doing that

That's very interesting Odyssey06.
The night of the storm the power didn't cut off but one bulb in the kitchen was giving out very low light.
All other lights seemed fine. I turned off the light in the kitchen for the rest of the night. Now it's fine again.
