Plumbing question - hot water issue

Hi everyone,
We've been having an issue with the hot water feeding our 2 showers. The water heated by gas works fine with all sinks and bath tap but comes out cold on the showers regarding the mixer temperature.
However, if we turn on the immersion as well then the hot water works on the showers, any idea of why and how to fix it?
We thought it could be the mixers that needed to be changed but considering there is hot water with the immersion, maybe the mixers are not the problem? Any help/suggestion would be super appreciated :)

Thanks!

Is the water temperature from the immersion a lot hotter than the gas heating ?

If so, the mix of cold and not so hot water might not be sufficient to get a hot shower.

Try turning off the cold water valve feeding the showers.
Turn the shower knob to fully hot. Is there a good flow of water?

If not, the in line water filter to the showers is probably clogged. These can be removed and cleaned.

The hot water filter is more inclined to clog.

Do you know the history of the house and plumbing?
By any chance is your gas boiler a combi boiler which supplies hot water to your taps / bath and your showers are fed off the cylinder heated by the electric immersion? This would not be a normal setup!

Good ideas above. With some shower mixer valves, even fully on hot they are still allowing a certain cold flow. If you can shut that off and run the shower for a while you should be able to determine the flow level and temperature from the hot feed.

Thank you for the replies!

Yes, the water temperature from the immersion is hotter than gas. I’ll test turning off the cold water to see if it could be a clog in the filter as suggested.

The boiler and immersion heats all hot water taps inclusive of sinks, showers and baths.

Hoping it’s an easy fix
