Play.com - incorrect order.

I've never had a problem with Play.com before and have completed several successful transactions with them in the past. Buuuut...

Last month I ordered a CD from them and the wrong CD was delivered (though the delivery docket indicated that it was the correct CD). I informed Play.com (though its not that clear from their website how to do this) and they've since said that they've issued the correct CD. The correct CD hasn't arrived yet but I hope that it will in due course.

What is really getting my back up is that they've told me to return the incorrect item (which retails at £4.99 new and the one I have has no cellophane wrapping and a cracked case which suggests its not new) to them (fair enough) by registered post or they will charge me for it (whoa there, Tonto!)

After several emails back and forth it emerges that their standard postage refund is €3. The cost of sending the item back by registered post is €7.05 according to www.anpost.ie. And that's before taking into account the inconvenience of repackaging the item and queuing up at the post office to send the item.

They've offered to refund the difference if I fax them the receipt. It's their c0ck-up - why should I be schlepping to the post office, registering packages, faxing receipts, etc. ?!

I've wasted enough time and energy on the matter now and have a good mind to ignore furture correspondence on the matter.

What would you do? And where do I stand if they do attempt to charge me for the incorrect item?

Its a pity about this. It's really dented my confidence in Play.com. I was planning to do much of my Christmas shopping there but now I'm having second and third thoughts...

personally i would not do anything. I find with play things get lost in admin. Sit tight and IF they go to effort of charging you then return cd.

Thanks star. I'm inclined to agree with you. My correct CD arrived today. The front of the case was cracked.
