Pension fund threshold

At the SF gathering over the weekend they proclaimed their support for law and order (irony is still alive and kicking in SF), but they still want to reduce the SFT €1m which will encourage senior Gardai and other to get out early.

If all parties went behind closed doors and came up with a long-term plan that they all stood behind without any leaks (yes I know that's asking a lot!) then they'd all be in the same boat so it wouldn't affect public opinion.
That's exactly what they did in 2009 in deciding between them to make future housing property investment unattractive and future house and apartment building largely impossible. That swiftly turned a national housing surplus into a shortage and later into a chronic crisis. Almost 15 years later, their failure is so abject that they've repeatedly doubled down on it, afraid throughout of acknowledging the scale of their error. Because it was done in concert, there is literally no opposition available to call them out on it.
