If someone wished to take a day a week off as parental leave for 20 days - how should parental leave be deducted from wages when they are paid monthly?

Standard 9-5, Mon – Fri job, no overtime. E.g. let’s say they are taking off one day a week as parental leave from 01 April 2019 for 20 weeks (so 20 days of parental leave would be used up).

Would they always have their salary deducted by 20% for a full month no matter if they took 4 or 5 days parental leave that month?

When I worked in payroll many moons ago, we calculated how many days pl were taken each month, and deducted salary/260 *days.

In my days in the Public Service payroll we used deduct the amount of hours due to be worked on the day of Parental Leave. Deductions took place in each pay period whether it was weekly, fortnightly, monthly.
