Paint on Bathroom ceiling flakes off due to steam- Any specialist paints which dont ?

I have a small bathroom with a bath and Triton shower over the bathtub. The walls are tiled from top to bottom. It's a fairly standard setup

But my problem is that the paint on the ceiling above the bathtub cracks and flakes off in no time at all after being painted. Is there any solution for this ? Maybe a specialist paint exists which can withstand the dampness and steam of a bathroom ? In saying this it's not so damp and I dont' spend hours in the shower. I have a skylight above the bathtub and usually open that when showering to let the steam out but whether I do or not this problem with the paint is a permanent feature. The ceiling appears to be standard plasterboard also. It's a shame this keeps happening. Everything else in the bathroom is perfect. Help please !

I'll also be interested to hear any expert replies on this, we've the same problem despite installing an extractor fan and always having the window open. I've painted the ceiling with bathroom ceiling paint but it still flakes. Its there a sealant required or something?

I have the same problem! What I was planning to do (at some stage....) was to completely strip the paint from the ceiling and replace it with 2 coats of water/damp resistant paint. I'm not sure what brand, but I saw it in a hardware shop recently

You can get specialist [broken link removed] paint from most of the big names.

We had this problem. What I did was to strip back all the peeling paint, sand down the ceiling, seal it with polybond and then repaint with bathroom paint. It seems to be working so far.

I too did this a couple of years ago, and no problems since.

We had the same problem, I stripped it back and painted the area with a white gloss paint, let that dry and went over it all with a ceiling paint and hasn't peeled since.:D
