Overtaking then solid white line

Reading the opening thread I don't think there was any chance of a possible accident. He was passing a slow moving vehicle and was unfortunate that when he finished his overtaking he was passed the broken white line.

I am sure that when you or your loved ones encounter one of these 'unfortunate' drivers heading towards you on a dangerous stretch of road your attitude is not so forgiving.

But we are talking about the opening thread here....there was no danger to anyone in this case, it seems. He was unfortunate, in my opinion.
Of course no one wants to meet an idiot passing on a continuous white line.
We all know the roads are not a nice place to drive anymore due to many bad and carless drivers..

It’s not up to the OP’s son or posters here to ascertain what’s dangerous and what’s not. The lines are there for a reason and the guy broke the rules, end of story.

In my experience Gardai are very slow to act on this kind of infringement, and yes, I've been stopped and warned for doing something stupid in the past. Either they got an over-zealous Garda (who was still absolutely within their right to penalise an infringement under the law). or maybe the Garda who witnessed the manoeuvre actually considered it sufficiently dangerous to go through the paperwork involved.

There is limited information in the opening post, so we are not in a position to judge the degree of danger. The local authority in their assessment have indicated that overtaking must be completed prior to the start of the continuous line to be safe, perhaps due to an upcoming bend, dip, etc.. They have trained specialists who decide these matters. Without evidence to the contrary, I can't see how anyone could conclude the move was safe going on the details provided.

Levels of enforcement are so so low (the amount of red light passers I see daily is unbelievable!) that anyone who is actually stopped, it is probably valid. Hopefully your son learns from it and yes maybe it was pushing the limit of the law to penalise him but where does the line stop (pun not intended!). Hopefully he has a long safe driving career ahead of him and maybe increased enforcement is happening, which will only make the roads safer for all. Did a lot of driving in France/Spain this summer and oh my the difference I noticed in skills versus Ireland. Maybe the driver profile is very different but the difference is stark.

Like I said before it is a , harsh, lesson for him. He will benefit from it in the long run.
