Key Post Oil tank gauges

My watchman oil monitor is acting up - any ideas whats wrong or how to fix ?
The tank is 9/10's full so its not the emptywarning signal.
The light keeps flashing & then random numbers 3,5,7,9 appearing
 
In the gauge thats on the tank, it has a few 'watch' type batteries fitted, usually need replacing every 3-5 years.
 
I discovered this by accident but if you shine a strong flashlight into the tank you can see the level of the oil through the green plastic material of the tank!

I used to have the "watchman" gizmo but it gave trouble and I suspect it interfered with my wireless broadband!
 
1 battery later & discovered it was the plug that was faulty.
had to re-order a new one but all is well again.

Thats interesting......do you mean shine the torch into the side of the tank moving it up or down until you see the oil level line.
