I have to say that MS have done an excellent job of spreading fear, uncertainty and doubt to the extent that people (like me) will willingly pay over €100 to get functionality that can be had for free.
I regard this as a failing of Word, not Open Office but the MS FUD-machine has spinned this to the degree that people think it is a failing of Open Office.
Wheels I take your point about interoperability with Word. In fairness it's an all but imposible task to have 100% compatability with a propietary binary format. For people however buying a cheap laptop for some simple home stuff (spreadsheets, letters etc) it is sufficent and at least worth a look at.
