Nice hotels in Dublin area (not southside) - suggestions?

I would for a multinational in Damastown (Clonee). From time to time I have visitors over from the US and China and because I live off Griffith Ave I have always recommended that they stay in Clontarf Castle because it was a) on the approved list of hotels for the company and b) it was pretty close to me so I could meet them on occasions for socialising - the feedback has always been great because they had the village beside them / could go for walks along the seafront and get a short taxi ride into town.

There are a couple coming over in mid-May and they were onto Clontarf Castle but the bloody hotel is not longer on the approved list (some dammed Procurement guy in India probably crossed them off). So I'm looking for an alternative, these guys don't want to be driving cos we drive on the wrong side of the road apparently so will be relying on taxis / lifts so I'd like somewhere not too isolated. Similarly I'd like a place that won't take them an hour to get to the office in the morning so would welcome any suggestions.

Typical budget is c. €100 per night and I'd appreciate any advice....

If the problem with Clontarf Castle is that it is not on an approved list, does that not mean that there is a list that you have to pick from?
Crowne Plaza in Santry is owned by the same crowd as Clontarf Castle and would be reasonably handy for you. Castleknock Hotel and Country Club would be closer to the office but further away from you.

Hi OT, yes there is a list but the idiots who approve the list are probably located in Manchester or Mumbai and don't realise the hassle involved in trying to get from Stephens Green to Clonee for example.

Crowne Plaza in Santry is an option alright an is on the list - Castleknock Golf & Country Club I've always felt was a bit isolated but thanks for the suggestions.

What about the Grand in Malahide. Lovely place, very old world, lots of walks etc, and on the Dart line? I love Malahide, great pubs, Marina, etc. Would give a great impression of Ireland.

Have you told the idiots about the problem? Nothing will change unless you're prepared to give them some local feedback.

The issue with Clontarf Castle is either a broader consolidation of the hotel list or else they are not giving enough bed nights in Clontarf to get the corporate rate. If lots of clients/employees were using Clontarf Castle they would not remove it unless they could not agree a rate.

nope Complainer, I haven't - they operate to procedures thta some other idiots draw up and sadly the "internal customer" feedback means nothing. I know that sounds defeatist but cest la vie......

The Marine Hotel in Sutton (sister hotel to Grand in Malahide) would be another option - always fascinated me that it was the number 1 or 2 rated hotel in all of Dublin on trip advisor for ages (has now become #1 hotel in Sutton Cross which is not difficult as there is only one!). The service seems to be good there and it is handy for restaurants in Howth, walks on the seafront/cliff walk and dart into town.

Crowne Plaza Santry is pretty decent - though not a whole lot to do within walking distance.

What about the Aishling Hotel beside Heuston Station? It was recently renovated and although I've never been in it, it always looks busy. It's beside the Phoenix Park so they have someone to go for walks, plus the Luas can bring them into town in a few minutes. It would only be about 10mins to Clonee if you go through the Park and the airport isn't too far away either. It's pretty handy for getting to most places

Thanks aaaa1 - never would have thought of that, I'll check out now.....thank you!

Not a very nice, or imo, a very safe area.

Agree - wouldnt like to be in that area after dark.

If I was visiting Dublin, this is where I'd like to stay. Agree it gives a great impression - loads of good restaurants also.

My favourite Hotel in Dublin, its grounds back right on to the beach, had our wedding reception there and have been back countless times since, probably biased but it beats all those other new soulless hotel chain franchises hands down, great service.
