The DART mission is a test of technology to determine whether sending a large, high-speed spacecraft to deliberately collide with an asteroid in space could change its motion. DART’s target asteroid does not pose a threat to Earth, either before or after DART’s impact.
Does anybody who has watched a scifi film believe that?
Anyone else thinking ... what city will the asteroid take out? Buenos Aires? Lagos? Cork? We can but hope.
Maybe that's what happened to Leitrim once upon at time.
Bonus points if an asteroid fragment hits a DART train, although damage is expected to be "less than an average Saturday night back from Howth" according to Dublin City Council *
