Moving to Galway City

Would anyone who lives or knows about the Doughiska area of Galway comment on the area in general. How are the bus links to the city centre etc.? I am considering there or oranmore and wondered people's thoughts on both areas. What is traffic like from oranmore at peak times?
Would anyone reccommend other areas for someone working in the mervue area with a budget of <300K?
Thanks for any replies.

Doughiska is very badly planned (bad roads, access, amenities),
one evening driving down that dirt track of a main road I had to pull over
cause some knacker from nearby dodgy estate was burning rubber,
smoke everywhere, and then he takes off flying
- do you want your family, kids walking about with this crap going on???

Everyone knows the main road through Doughiska I'm taking about,
its a disgrace. No Street lamps?? NO ROAD SURFACE!!??

The Doughiska estate houses arent bad (decent size, gardens) but the appartment blocks are future ghettos... just like so many Dublin appartment complexes are becoming.

They could have done the whole area way better, but the greedy cowboys
AS USUAL are only interested in squashing as many units into as little land as quick as possible.

There is a circle route bus around every hour, to town. Not great service,
but most galway public transport is pathetic.
- You can miss out the main roads when going to Mervue though if you drive

Oranmore is more pleasant, and spacious, but there's little (new) amenities
there neither. Maybe it will improve, but theres never definites with non-housing developments, because theres no money in them.

Theres no beach in Oranmore, you see the coast and sea, but you cant go for walks down there, bring kids, etc

The Oranmore - Galway bus service is a complete joke!!!
- hence traffic can be bad, it moves, but its an extra headache when you get the usual delays getting ACROSS/ through the city.

Your prob better off going the full 300k (or more if you can) and buying in mervue area to have shorter commute, be closer to town, and have a better quality of life - more local amenities.

There is a pier by the sea with a 5km walk and a lovely park area. I often go there at luch time and eat my lunch there?
