Hello. We are considering moving from Dublin to East Meath, specifically Julianstown/Laytown/Bettystown. One of us would be commuting to Dublin for work. Can anyone advise what the traffic is like on the M1 and M50 these days? The train is not an option right now as work is in City West but that my change.

Has anyone made a similar move recently? We've done research but are looking for people's experiences and opinions in terms of traffic, lifestyle, schools or anything at all! Thanks: Mesu

traffic is free flowing now since the roadworks have finished near swords and the airport. I commute from near Balbriggan to near Blanchardstown and I can do it in about 30 mins.

There is sometimes a delay around the arport if the port tunnel is backed up.
There is sometimes a delay on the M50 due to rain/accidents.
I don't know what the delays are like further on the M50 from the N3 exit, but I sometimes see a slowdown/backlog building around there, perhaps due to volumes merging on at the N4 ramps?

East Meath is a wonderful place to live. Just beyond Bettystown is Mornington which is my pick. Quieter than Bettystown, beach if its own, still within walking distance of Bettystown and a ten minute drive to Drogheda and all amenities there. Not sure of m50 but we get to Dublin city centre in about 40 mins

Just to add we made the move from Dublin 5 years ago and gave never looked back! Have 3 yiu g kids school is great plenty of crèches and play schools to choose from plenty to get involved in for kids and yourselves- tennis, golf, football, gaa, swimming and gym, scouts, evening classes, nice couple of places to eat and to drink all in laytown/ Bettystown/ Mornington great for walks and running too :) anything else you need to know just ask :)
