Mortgage Brokers

The sort of carry-on witnessed on Prime Time (and by your friends if you're talking about the same practices) is unquestionably wrong, but to label a whole profession with sweep of the brush "most other brokers" is excessive, in my opinion.

Agreed Liam, and I am certainly not tarring anyone else with the same brush.

according to primetime program itself:
' According to the programme, the practice, which is in serious breach of data protection regulations, is widespread in the industry.'

it ain't just one EA and it ain't just one broker.

I think you have underlined the issue and i have underlined that they have been extremely useful to me in my past dealings.

caveate should be added to all recommendations that this may or not be an issue.
best of luck op with whomever you choose.

Hi Apple,

I think that's an unfair generalisation based only, it seems, on anecdotal evidence. Yes, I'm a broker and so "I would say that, wouldn't I?"

But I also would have many friends and acquaintances in the mortgage broking business who wouldn't dream of selling out their clients in this manner. Many of them are fairly low-profile and run very successful businesses from referrals from existing clients alone, with no need to advertise. So apart from personal ethics, it can be very financially beneficial to treat your clients well.

Point taken liam.. however i also think it is wrong to say that no one else other than that particular brokerage is or was involved.

from reading the article i posted earlier, they have taken proactive steps in DEC 2006 to stop this from occuring in that company again and i would be surprised if they would take part in that activity again and risk g3etting caught with their pants down.

Sadly, you're probably right - I've no evidence but I'm sure there are other brokers who have done the same sort of thing.

But given that Irish mortgage brokers placed over €11 billion worth of mortgage business last year, I'd hope that "most" of them are honest upstanding professionals and the dodgy ones are in the minority.

lets hope that the issue highlighted last year has scared off any brokers thinking of doing such a thing and that it won't happen again...the damage to their repuation would be large.

thanks liam

Thanks all,

I think I will give REA a try. Although I will warn them before hand that if they deal supply any of my info to any agents I will come back here and tell everyone about it!(Only joking!!) Thanks again.

Just to add another recommendation for REA. They had initial loan approval for me within 24 hours and a loan offer within 72 hours of submitting the supporting documentation. They seem to have good connections with the banks and their offer on conveyancing is pretty good too.
